This is an excellent aster for sunny, dry gardens. It has a compact, mounded shape and blooms all the way into November. The name alludes to the aroma of the crushed leaves, which smell like balsam. Like other asters, it is a keystone species and supports an incredible variety of wildlife. Spreads quickly by rhizome.
