When will 2025 preorders be ready for pickup?
Most species will likely be ready in mid-May. If we have a cool spring, slow-growers may not be ready until June.
When your plants are ready, I'll email you to arrange pickup at the nursery or farmers market.
When will my new plant bloom?
Our plants range from 4 months old to 1 year old. The bloom time depends on the type of plant and when it is planted.
- Annuals will bloom the year they are planted.
- Biennials will bloom next year.
- Perennials might bloom the first year. For example, if you plant a fall-blooming plant in May, there is a good chance it will bloom year one. If you plant a spring-blooming plant in July, it will wait until the following spring to bloom. Some species, such as lead plant, take several years to bloom for the first time.
What size are your plants?
Our plants are sold as small pots, 2.5" x 3.5" deep. They are also known as 32s because 32 pots fit in a standard nursery flat.
How much will the plants spread?
All our plants have the potential to spread to some degree, either by seed or rhizome. They aren't sterile cultivars, which is part of what makes them so valuable for pollinators and other wildlife. Native plant gardens are dynamic, and plants will move around over time.
The amount of spread varies widely by species. Plants that spread quickly by seed or rhizome are marked as "Highly competitive" in the product description. These species may not be a good choice for small gardens. Aside from that, most species are easy to "edit out" or transplant to a new area if they pop up where you don't want them.
How do you safeguard against invasive jumping worms?
We don't have jumping worms at the nursery yet, fortunately. However, we follow best practices to prevent their spread, including using sterile potting mix and storing pots off the ground.
