Showy pink flower wands make this a popular shrub for rain gardens, swales, and other moist areas. The rare Karner blue butterfly has been seen visiting the flowers for nectar. Deer and rabbits occasionally browse it but the bitter foliage is not their favorite. Spreads by suckers.
Prune in early spring if desired. Remove suckers to control spread.
