Physocarpus opulifolius (common ninebark)

This fast-growing shrub provides four-season interest, from arching stems draped with white flowers in summer to seed pod in fall to peeling bark in winter. Attracts a variety of pollinators and offers excellent cover for birds. Self-infertile: Plant multiples to ensure fruiting.

Prune every year in early spring by thinning 1/3 of old stems. Or, cut back to the ground if shorter height is desired. Remove any branches affected by powdery mildew in late summer.
