Geum triflorum (prairie smoke)

A nursery can’t really pick favorites, but if we did this might be it! Lovely in every season — the nodding flowers become wispy seedheads and finally leaves turn red in winter. Bumblebees feed on the nectar. Spreads slowly to form a groundcover. A beautiful wildflower for front yards and short borders.

Tip: Avoid planting with tall, highly competitive plants or it may be overtaken.
