A true spring ephemeral, the distinctive star-shaped flowers bloom in early spring and then the plant goes dormant by summer. Watch for queen bumblebees performing "buzz pollination" - vibrating their muscles to shake out the pollen. Best planted in early fall.
Also called midland shooting star.
